Micromap™Data
from the temperature loggers is closely analysed and is
used to produce a Micromap™ of the
property. The Micromap illustrates the spatial variation in temperature
during clear, settled weather conditions. This is the expected pattern
of temperatures around the property during most subsequent frost
events. It enables growers to aim frost fighting resources into areas
of higher risk. The following image is an example and the are more in
the slides below.
Top
of Page InversionThe
mast temperature
data is used to calculate the relative inversion
strength. This is the temperature difference between the top and the
bottom of the mast. In most cases an inversion strength of at least
2.0 °C is recommended before implementing mechanical
methods
of mixing air to mitigate frosts. At times inversion strength can vary
considerably around a single property rendering a mixture of frost
protection methods suitable to cover a block. Some examples of
inversion conditions are presented below. Top
of Page Katabatic DriftKatabatic
drifts are generated by the drainage of colder air from hydrological
catchments around the property. These breezes are only generated during
clear,
settled weather and the wind measurements from the masts are used to
determine the drift wind strength and directions.
Graphs in the slide show below provide an example of
katabatic development during the night. Accompanying rose plots are
another way to portray average wind drift strengths and
directions. These factors are considered when determining
the efficiency and placement of wind machines or water protection. They
are also considered when advising on helicopter flight paths. ReportEvery
